Robert Beau Michaels' first solo release, Angel Fire, is a gorgeous, beautifully layered New Age collection of cinematic soundscapes, which seem to perfectly comprise the moods of a movie about angels in love. Not a surprise considering Michaels earned degrees in film and writing before settling in Santa Fe, NM., to compose scores likes these, which he says he hears playing at night in his dreams.

Consistent throughout, this CD is an angelic combination of lofty, multi-layered high strings and beautifully sampled soft vocals floating atop subtle pianos and deep, circular phase-shifting bass tones. Save the muted trumpet and sparse drum beat in “Sensual Motion,” every beat-free track is dipped in soothing pads and textures perfect for soft contemplation, drifting off into a dream, or holding someone special close while enjoying a crackling fire.
